FASC Winter Weekend 2013

The weekend of 8-10 February in St Moritz was a huge success. More than 50 members attended from all but 2 of the clubs in the Federation. We were very happy to be 6 from Fribourg! The bar was full of members from about 18:30 on both days.
We travelled to St Moritz in snow on Friday and those who stayed on till Monday came back in snow. But the weekend itself was fine and sunny especially the Sunday. But cold - at the bottom of the telecabine to Corviglia (1700m) it was -22°C on Sunday. But at 2500m it seemed warmer! The view form the top (Piz Nair) is fabulous. On Saturday there was a walk from Silvaplana to Maloya (a little bit harder and longer than anticipated). Then on Sunday afternoon we were able to watch horse-racing on the frozen lake - gallops, trotting (with special sleighs instead of sulkies) and ski-jöring (the horse pulls a skier over 6'000 metres!). This was a spectacular event with sports personalities taking part. The winner was Renato Tosio, former ice-hockey goalkeeper for Switzerland and Berne. Most fun was people-watching - there were 13,500 people there and probably about 1'000 fur coats!
A great weekend to be repeated next year, perhaps somewhere a little less expensive - Bratwurst and Rösti cost CHF 26.50!
