Golf Challenge 2014

Despite the FASC team losing to the BRA last year it was decided that this challenge match should become a permanent feature in the annual calendar of both associations. As a consequence, the 2nd. Challenge Match took place again at Wallenried in glorious weather on 5 September, 2014.

The BRA fielded 3 teams of four (each of which had to include a lady) against only one from the FASC so it was no surprise that the BRA triumphed once more and was presented with a copy of the famous Claret Jug awarded to the winner of the British Open Golf Championship (donated by the BRA).

Pamela Type (BRA) was not only the Best Lady Player overall with 40 Stableford points, but also had the highest score of any player, male or female. Best Male overall was Thomas Wolf (guest of the FASC) with 34 points followed by Jürgen Bärtschi also with 34. The FASC team unfortunately came last of the four teams, but the male players actually led those of winning team by one point! Our one lady player had a day she would rather forget!

Hartmut Menzel, President of ASC Fribourg, organized excellent weather and everyone had a most enjoyable match. We are grateful to François Blancpain who donated cash and golf balls publicizing his Cardinal Museum (as prizes). Everyone, including several members of the Fribourg club who just came for the après-golf enjoyed a pleasant aperitif and an excellent dinner in the evening – the restaurant came under new management since last year.

We look forward to getting our own back in next year’s challenge match.
